Principals

Jack W. Womack, CPL


Jack W. Womack was born in Austin, Texas and graduated from the University of Texas in 1978. He started his oil and gas career working in-house for Texaco thru Steve Tomlinson and Associates and went to work for R. K. Gammill and Associates in 1980, where he quickly became the coordinator for all of the field landwork performed by the firm.

Mr. Womack started Crew Land Research in September of 1982 with two other partners and continues to run Crew Land today with Matthew L. Zander, CPL.

Mr. Womack, as Managing Partner, attends to the majority of the firm’s accounting and is the Due Diligence coordinator for all of our client’s in-house needs.  Mr. Womack is adamant about continually upgrading his land and legal knowledge in our field and stresses that component in all matters Crew Land represents.

Mr. Womack is a member of the American Association of Professional Landman (AAPL) and has been involved with the board for the Houston Association of Professional Landmen (HAPL). He has also continued his leadership skills serving on the boards of the Post Oak Pony League, Young Life and Episcopal High School; where both of his children attended.

Mr. Womack’s passions include hunting, floating, golf and the Boy Scouts of America, where he is an Assistant Troop Leader for the 95 boys within Troop 255 in the Third Ward of Houston.  He also enjoys spending time with his family; wife, Alden, has been a school teacher for over 20 years and is now the curriculum coordinator at Westminister Weekday School, daughter, Linden, a teacher at Yellowstone Academy and son, Drew, a Landman for Crew Land Research.

Matthew L. Zander, CPL


Matthew L. Zander grew up in Houston, Texas and attended Robert E. Lee High School. He graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelors degree in Economics in 1987.

Mr. Zander started his career in the Oil and Gas Industry directly after graduating college as an Independent Field Landman for Crew Land Research in 1987. He became a Crew Chief in 1994 managing a major public client, earned his Certified Petroleum Landman (CPL) certificate in 1995 and with his passion for the business he worked his way up to Partner in 1999.

Mr. Zander currently manages the majority of the firm’s field projects with both publicly and privately held clients. He attends to each individual client’s needs and is extremely diligent in keeping an open line of communication with those clients.

Mr. Zander is a member of the American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL) and the Houston Association of Petroleum Landmen (HAPL). He continues his leadership skills as a Coach for SBMSA baseball and football, and serves as a volunteer for Living Water, the Houston Food Bank, Wounded Warriors and Special Olympics. Mr. Zander enjoys hunting, fishing and spending time with his family; wife, Kimberly, and children, Courtney, Cullen and Walker.
